September was a very productive month for us. We began the month by unpublishing the few books we had published on Amazon in order to fix a few issues. We added better titles, subtitles, keywords, and in some cases, we reworked the covers. Hopefully, we found a good formula to generate interest in our Amazon store.
We learned that we need to plan for books several months ahead. Q4 is basically the last 3 months of the year, so we were thrown into the situation of playing catch-up with our competitors by coming out with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas products. We even created a journal to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The struggle this month (and the coming month) is whether or not to advertise our books using Amazon ads. It seems we will need to if we want to compete with established book publishers and others who are also just starting out. Social media posting almost seems to be a full-time job, and that was an eye-opener. Every time we release a product, we found we need to post about it on our FB, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest pages. It’s a lot of work, but I’ve actually found it fun.
We’ve put out some designs on Redbubble, but noticed that sometimes taking book covers and turning them into products people may want to buy is challenging. Sometimes designs needed to be reworked for it to work there. I think what is really helping to bring eyes to Redbubble is obviously social media.
Our Youtube channel is finally up and running. Right now we are posting the few videos we are creating about our book releases. I’m not sure if that will change in the future, but so far it looks good as another marketing tool.
In the coming weeks will be focusing more on Christmas-related books, especially activity books and coloring books for kids. Those were difficult to learn to do but very fulfilling when complete. We might even try our hand at planners and logbooks as well.
If you have any requests or suggestions as far what type of books you’d like to see us creating, comment below. We are definitely looking to grow beyond what we have now.
